Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

Empowering Communities Through Health Education and Access

Understanding SRHR

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) represent the human right to physical, mental, and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system, allowing individuals to make free, informed decisions about their bodies, sexuality, and reproduction without coercion or discrimination.

What SRHR Encompasses

SRHR is a comprehensive framework that goes beyond basic healthcare. It encompasses the right to access quality reproductive health services, receive accurate information, make autonomous decisions about one's body, and live free from violence and discrimination. This includes family planning, maternal health, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, and comprehensive health education.

Core Principles of SRHR

  • Autonomy and Informed Decision-Making Every individual has the right to make free and informed decisions about their reproductive health without coercion, discrimination, or violence.
  • Access to Quality Healthcare Services Comprehensive reproductive health services should be accessible, affordable, and of high quality for all individuals.
  • Comprehensive Education and Information Access to accurate, age-appropriate information about sexual and reproductive health enables informed choices.
  • Equality and Non-Discrimination SRHR services and information must be provided without discrimination based on any status.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality All individuals have the right to privacy and confidentiality when seeking reproductive health services.
  • Freedom from Violence and Harmful Practices Protection from gender-based violence, forced marriage, and other harmful practices.
